H&M, its about time.

H&M is finally coming to Seattle! HENNES & MAURITZ, commonly known as H&M, originated in Europe, but is adding many stores to the states. Not one, not two, but three new H&M stores are coming to the Seattle area! This store is called the "fast-food" of retail stores since it carries many trends, but has cheap prices, but unlike fast-food, I know many people will constantly keep going back to these stores. The first store is coming to University Village this fall, just in time for back to school shopping. The other two stores will be at Southcenter mall, and Downtown Seattle (on Pike Street)

Thats Hauttte Fashion is wayyyy excitedd. Be jealous, the Seattle area keeps on maturing in terms of fashion. It seems like just yesterday everyone still shopped at what was then the Bon Marche..

On the street..

Highschool is when most teenagers try out driving, regardless of what their parents reactions are. However, not all teens can get a car, especially not when they first start to drive. If you're one of those teens, or if you're an adult who for some reason cannot get a car, or if you have some odd phobia of driving, take a look at this inspiring New York Times slideshow.

These people are making it around in bikes, and looking awfully happy about it. Maybe more of us should try it out, for ourselves and the environment. (I think that this would be much harder if you're not in the city, however.) I have one question though...do they feel the cold at all??

Pre-Fall 2008

Pre-Fall 2008, Louis Vuitton. Cinching a simple unbuttoned sweater with a thin belt is something anyone can incoporate into their own outfits. Instant elegance!

Pre-Fall 2008, ChloƩ. Layer scarves, layer sweaters, why not experiment with layering? Enough said.

Pre-Fall 2008, Nina Ricci. Let's see some more silver out there. Also, try layering even trenches.

Pre-Fall 2008, Proenza Schouler. The duo behind Proenza Schouler sure have a lot of strong ideas. At least three big things can be learned from this. 1) that strong purple color = love. 2) try layering long sleeves under 3/4 sleeve blazers 3) one word: tights.

Semi-Formal Betsey's way.

Semi-formal is coming soon (Feb.2nd) and I know the girls are trying to find a dress! (The guys have it easier, don't you think?)

In each "pair" of dresses, the one on the right is from Betsey Johnson, and the one on the left is a cheaper version. [found from, clockwise, forever21; macys; macys; alloys]. Betsey Johnson is known for her dresses, which are young, flirty, some are cute, some are classy, and they all stand out. Perfect for the girls at public school, oui?

Study Tips for the Hauttte Highschooler

Finals are coming up soon! It's time to start cramming. Admit it, everyone waits until the last moment to study. Here are some study tips for the "hauttte highschooler"...

1. Wear perfume/cologne when you study, and wear that same scent when you take your test. Memory is connected to smell. (Hint: wear a different perfume/cologne than what you usually wear)

2. While studying, keep a peppermint in your mouth... it clears your nasal passage for fresh air. More fresh air means more oxygen to the brain.

3. Make sure your study place is the right temperature! Hot temperature = makes you sleepy. Cold temperature = makes your thinking unclear.

4. Take the basic and most important concepts you learned, and turn it into a rap or a song. This will familiarize you with the key terms. (it doesn't HAVE to rhyme..)

5. After you finish studying, place your books that you studied from in the center of your room, then think to yourself, the things you need to remember from that book. The next morning, when you get up, you'll see those books again, and it'll help you remember the things you studies last night.

6. Students nowdays dont make flashcards for themselves. They write wikipedia entries. Writing the ideas in your own words will help you put your topic into words so that you can understand and memorize it better.

7. Study to music that you don't know the lyrics to, or to completely instrumental music. It stops you singing along (unintentionally too) to every song and allows you to focus completely on the task at hand.

Disclaimer: No results guaranteed. For these tips to help you still must actually study!

Aberzombie

A controversial topic:
The Aberzombie.

aberzombie (n) middle or highschooler who constantly wears clothes from Abercrombie, Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, or American Eagle. Although there's nothing wrong with these stores, aberzombies tend to look like a walking billboard.

Almost everyone has worn or thought about wearing Abercrombie sometime in their life. For our generation, these type of stores have become infamous classics. Since they're so popular among middle and highschoolers, everyone has the risk of wearing similar or the same things as someone else. People, especially girls, tend to blend in, and their clothes show that they're scared to wear other clothes, or they desperately want to look like a twin. Or they like being called an Aberzombie.

Don't think I'm against these stores...there's alot of clothes that don't make your chest look like a billboard. There are cute and simple basics, sweaters, jacket, and addicting cologne/perfume (if you don't pour it on yourself!) Then, there's the Aberzombie material: huge logos, writing on the t-shirts, etc. You know you're turning into an Aberzombie when all your shirts/sweaters are cut in the exact same style. You know you ARE an Aberzombie when almost all your jeans are the same, and you wear cologne/perfume from the same stores you buy clothes from.

Are you or your friends suffering from this? You don't have to not wear your clothes, just shop from different stores too, keep your mind open, watch others at school or on the street, learn from the ways different people dress, accessorize your outfits that are on the brink of aberzombie-ness, and try not to wear an outfit that consists of Abercrombie/Hollister/AE shirt, cami (girls), jeans, flipflops, cologne/perfume, jacket, bag, etc. ALL AT THE SAME TIME. ♥

Spicyy Scarves

We're all wishing for snow, but even if it's not snowing this is Seattle. Seattle = freezing rain. Most of us have already discovered scarves, but really, you don't HAVE to just wrap it around your neck and leave the ends hanging out like that. Just because your mother taught you how to do that, doesn't mean you can't try different ways of tying scarves :]

THE BASIC.

UrbanOutfitters

One-Loop

ae.

"Hankerchief" style

UrbanOutfitters

Eternity or Never-ending scarf.

UrbanOutfitters

Bunched-Up

AmericanApparel

Shawl

Nordstroms

These are just some [basic] options. Tie, twist, cut, sew, dye, etc. your scarf in any way you want to!

Other Tips: Scarves with extra beading/fringe, different material (like silk/satin), can both stand out and blend in without looking bland, depending on how you wear it. It's easy to add your own edges (specialty ribbons/fringes available at the local Michaels, JoAnns, and Pacific Fabrics) by sewing, or using fabric glue.

It's a Classic. [quote]

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” -Coco Chanel.

Tall && Short

What is best for you to wear, or not wear, when you're either tall or short? Everyone has their favorite physical aspects, and then some that could use a little boost. What can you do? (Besides cosmetic plastic surgery of course.) Clothes cut in certain ways or with certain patterns can give your body the encouragement it needs.

SHORT
Wearing fitted wide-leg pants with heels underneath makes you go from looking like 5'2" to 5'10", although of course results may vary. When your friends ask you what you did, or if you're wearing heels, shrug it off and change the subject! In the summer, wearing short-shorts show off leg, which gives you more height! The same goes for a mini-dress that shows off leg. Wear clothes that fit. Clothes that are too big and hang off of you will make you look smaller, or make you look like you're melting.

TALL
If you're tall, wearings cut off tights or leggings show that youre tall, without making you tower over others. Add a mini-skirt over, and you're a giant no more. Avoid big, flowery, or striped patterns, as they can elongate or draw attention to places where you don't need extra attention. Also wear clothes that fit, and especially not clothes too small or too tight.

For you boys:
SHORT
For you vertically challenged boys, it's a little bit harder for you to "gain" height, since most mens shoes are flat. However, by wearing fitted clothes, you will look taller than if you wear baggy clothes, which weighs you down.

TALL
Most men don't mind being too tall, I just have the same piece of advice. Make sure your clothes fit, since that will always compliment your size, regardless of how tall or short you are! If for some reason you do want to make your tall frame seem a little bit shorter, avoid stripes, especially vertical stripes, and large patterned clothing.

Although these tips are helpful, once you know for sure you've stopped growing, everyone should be proud of their height and show it off. :]

Break's Officially Over...

...and I'm sorry to say I was disappointed in some of you today. However...I did notice...

-The obvious patriots fan. [you know who you are] Your clothing shows your character, your uniqueness, and what you believe in. :]
-The blonde with the grey 3/4 sleeved trapeze-styled sweater. A simple piece in a very simple outfit, yet still different from everything else in the halls.
-The petite dark haired girl with what resembles Uggs, but are definitely definitely better than the original ugg. Your black and red checkered and patterned shoes stood out in a good way.
-Hoodies are better than plain sweatshirts, and I liked the grey with colorful dinosaurs, the colorful hoodies without the huge obvious Abercrombie,Hollister,AE, etc. logo, the bold blue and black glencheck hoodie paired with a studded wide black belt, and the other hoodies with cool patterns, words, etc. :]
-The purple/grey pants with silver pinstripes
-The brunette wearing what seems to be a simple t-shirt, but with the slightest flaring cut apart sleeves.
-The silver wedges barely hidden under straight-cut jeans
-The colorful converse [with various colors all on one shoe], keds billabong/roxy, various ballet flats, wedges and pumps, etc. You stood out among the Uggs. :] [Not saying anything bad to the many girls wearing Uggs. Maybe you were extremely tired this morning, maybe you didn't want to think of an outfit, or maybe you were having an "off" day]

Hope you stayed awake your first day back from break :] Good Luck waking up early tomorrow! ♥
