Christian Dior Resort 2009

Pictures are in no particular order.

The ruffled tiers adds flirty yet elegant shape to this jacket. I have to ask though, what is with the furry sleeves? Well, I guess it adds texture..

Chanel Iman looks so sophisticated in this picture. The pure white dress adds on to the sophistication!

Remember my post from Bangkok Fashion Week with the sombreros? [http://thatshautttefashion.blogspot.com/2008/04/bangkok-fashion-week.html] Look what unique hat decided to show up again..

This dress isn't terribly special, but the ruffles are borderline cute and the color of this dress looks stunning with her skin tone.

This outfit I love, partially because the material looks so fun and flowing, etc. etc. and the bow around the waist is pretty and flattering. I want to reach out and touch the fabric!

Another sombrero! What do you think of these huge bows plopped right on top of your stomach?

This dress is more betsey-johnson-esque than I thought would be ever be in this runway show, but the lace and all is still very feminine and pretty :]

A box-shaped jacket. And daisies. I don't have much input for this one, but I can't decide if that means I like it or I don't.

The neckline. The collar. That's really cool

Who ordered the birthday cake? Okay, I'll stop now I respect Christian Dior you know I do.

That necklace! If you are ever looking for a bold statement piece with animal print, this is the way to go.

...
Do you want your chest to look like a fish tail/fin too?

I'm in a mermaid mood today...and I do not know why. This elegant dress is something I'd imagine a land-version of some queen mermaid to wear.

It takes amazing and incredible sewing skills to make a dress look like it has no shape yet so much shape and drapery and details and everything at the same time.

Pretty gown, not unique, but then again this isn't Haute Couture, so it's perfectly alright!

Okay this one isn't so much of a birthday cake now. The detailed belt makes this dress so wearable, I wonder what celeb is going to come out wearing this first.

I put this picture in because it disappoints me. (Got to show the good and bad, right?) Like something you would find in the teen prom section.

If there were such thing as a casual ball gown. This would be it. (I attempted sketching casual ball gowns once, it was interesting.)

Those bows from earlier in the runway show have appeared again! (This was the last outfit, sorry these are out of order). At first I thought this would be way better in color, but then I realized this nude color makes this dress way less cheesy.

I just had to show another sombrero pic. I wonder if the people at Christian Dior were aware of the international fashion show at Thailand that used these?
Dmitri Shostakovich (a famous musician/composer) once said "Good composers borrow, great composers steal". Now change the word "Composers" with "designers"

I just had to put in this dress too.The thing about this dress that I liked was the neckline. Oh, and the earrings!

Taunting

A That's Hauttte Fashion original:

The young woman, most likely in her twenties, ushered the last customers out of her popular boutique and closed the glass doors behind them. She tossed empty leftover hangers to the side of the boutique and sat down on a cushioned wooden chair. With expert hands, she grabbed tremendously sharp scissors and hacked away at large pieces of fabric in front of her. With a twist of her hands and a neat flourish, she folded the newly shaped pieces of fabric and shoved it under a sewing machine with such intensity that the table shook underneath her. She started to ease the fabric under a sewing machine, letting it dutifully turn two pieces of fabric into one.
After an hour of hunching over her table and sewing machine, she slipped her finished garment, a draped satin dress, over a mannequin in the front of the boutique. Seemingly satisfied with her work, she dimmed the lights and slipped on a long jacket, one of her own, and left the boutique without acknowleding any citizens in the street. A few of the friendly "regulars" who frequented the street waved in silence since, for all they knew, she had no identity. As the woman walked out under a streetlight and buttoned her jacket, the outline of her body started to blend into the nighttime air, until she disappeared completely.
The next day at exactly 6:00 am, the young woman returned to the store and dutifully sat down by her sewing machine. Right when she sat down, she jumped up, and as if she just remembered, she took off her jacket and put it on a hook on the wall. While it was on the hook, the end and sleeves of the jacket occasionally moved, even though there wasn't any wind or movement in the boutique. The sleeves of the jacket pointed towards the pictures above the woman's work table. These pictures were of previous boutique owners, who each had once been apprentices in the boutique. There were many pictures, of the previous owners when they first became interested in find a job, and afterwards when they passed on their position. The differences in the moody "before and after" pictures were vast. Those who had a confident sm ile seemed blurred into the background in later pictures, and in the background were rows of handmade clothes that surrounded them and made them appear smaller than they already were.
The woman unlocked the front glass door as people began wandering by the window, looking entranced at the displayed clothes. She walked around...tidying up the boutique with a defiant attitude, but it was too late for her, as it was for all the previous owners before. Hurrying to the backroom before the customers came in, she went into the back "lounge" room. She took a sip from a bottle of water, hoping to sooth the constant regrest that nagged her everday. Memories of starting businesses, stress, loss of imagination, and worry raced through her head, but she sipped water, gripped her loose shirt, and sighed when the moment passed. She braced for the next memory.
The silky shirt was smooth to the touch, and the way it made people happier when they wore it was unbelievable. People wore clothes not to just look good, but to help them feel and act better. The teenager, apprenticing in a boutique, thought about all this with wonder, but sitll refused to change her own outlook. She wanted to make clothes, use her imagination. This was a personal hobby for her (sewing, that is) yet the process was fun. The teenaged girl hated for her work to be criticized, and it showed. She was hesitant towards letting anybody see her accomplishments, and was unwilling to even talk to others about her recent creations. When somebody approaches her with innocent questions, wondering how she spends her day "apprenticing", her reaction is always the same. Blush. Close her eyes. Stutter. Run into the back room.
Walking back into the main boutique, shirts fell from the display where they were usually perfectly stacked and balanced. It was as if they were taunting her, forcing her to remember that it was her fault for giving in. If only she had remained confident and if only she had persisted in believing that she could pull off any clothes or business opportunity. If only she had known that if you try very hard to make something happen for yourself and believe that you will, then you will succeed no matter what it is. Then she might not have disappeared.

Glass Slipper

Once again, another random comparison. These shoes look painful, and I'd rather wear Cinderella's glass slippers. I mean, look at those spiky icicle-y things along the shoe...

[Disney's Cinderella.! I miss those days when I had my very own Cinderella shoes. Except they were pink with fluffy feathers...glamorous, no?]

John Galliano is amazing and all, but...

[MC Hammer and Disney's Jasmine]
Um..So I wonder what kind of music and movies John Galliano likes..

Polygamist Fashion Statement

After reading an article that was recently featured in many newspapers, I learned that there are so many small details in the clothes that the Polygamist women are wearing. Their dresses are obviously meant to be modest and to create unity. However, there's special stitchings in their dresses to protect the body and to remind you of your commitment, and their pastel colors represent femininity without coming off too boldly. What amazed me the most is that they never cut their hair, and they roll their bangs back without curling irons of any sorts (that's considered to be too modern). Imagine curling extremely long strands of your hair into ringlets without a curling iron!

This past week the women from the Texas polygamist compound have been constantly featured on the news, and not only does their story shock people, but their clothes stand out too. Could these clothes influence our modern-day fashion?

Sea Urchin

So...what happens if you trip and you land in that awkward position where you're sort of on your side and your foot is sideways underneath you?

Someone was crying

A That's Hauttte Fashion original:

It was already nearing six in the evening, which felt more like midnight in the middle of winter. That was when I was taking a walk through the outskirts of the park after having had a typically horrible day. The park was a nice hideout for me, since it’s so small that none of the tourists ever come visit, and it was neighboring my house, which provided anything but peace in my times of trouble. Sometimes, I’d just sneak out in the middle of the night to take a walk, and avoid the commanding voices that would take over my life the moment I step into the boundaries of my parents’ property.

It took a while at first for me to hear the quiet sobs that echoed throughout the forest. I was too indulged in my own thoughts to really care about anything other than my own suffering mind. But eventually it did reach past the surface of my ears and into my head.

Someone was crying.

I tried to ignore the sounds at first—I had my own problems to deal with first. But strangely enough, no matter how far I walked, the sound just wouldn’t go. Eventually I made my way back to the other side of the park, planning to leave the place all together, but even then the crying didn’t stop resonating. Frustrated, I kicked a small rock beside me with force and watched it skid away into the distance.

As my eyesight wandered in the direction of the rock, I saw a faint glow hidden in the dense forestry of the park. Curiosity overcame my frustration, and quietly, I made my way toward the light. As I got closer, the shine became so magnificent that it took my breath away for a moment. What light could look so grand and beautiful?

Awed by the beauty, I walked slowly closer and closer to the light, and soon I could feel its warmth washing over me, relaxing my muscles. I felt like I was in a dream. But when I got close enough, the dream-like state disappeared quite suddenly as I realized what was producing such a godly aura.

A man laid on the ground, in a lifeless position, weeping quietly.

A layer of glowing light surrounded his figure, and his skin sparkled a bit, looking ever so surreal. He glowed the perfect shade of gold, so that it was easy to see him and doesn’t hurt the eyes. I bent down gently, as if my movement might disturb his beauty, and asked in a small unsure voice, “is something wrong?”

The weeping immediately stopped, but the glow remained. The man slowly lifted his head up and looked at me straight in the eyes. I felt naked and bare for a second, as if he could see my soul and my sins. Now that he faced me, I could make out his features clearly from the light he gave off. Something about him felt familiar; I felt a wave of nostalgia. But then he looked away and replied, “yes, there is something terribly wrong. I am lost, and I want to go home.”

The words that sound ever so childlike stung in my ears, melting my heart. His voice, thick and rich like his glow, felt like it was speaking directly to my heart, making its way through the thick cobwebs that have grown in my mind. After a moment of pause as I woke myself out of the trance he brought me into, I helpfully asked where he lives. The man gave me a look that showed disappointment, but he replied anyways, in a dismal tone.

“I live in your heart, but I am lost. I don’t know how to get there. Can you help me?”

It was then that I finally recognized the man. I was unable to identify him at first, despite being the one who knows him best. I suppose I haven’t paid attention to him for a while, for we aren’t as close as we used to be. He has definitely changed from the way I last remember him, but for sure, there he was, lying there pitifully on the ground at my feet: my soul.

Bangkok Fashion Week

There's so many international fashion weeks I've never kept up with, such as the Bangkok, Thailand fashion week. Pictures from Seattle PI

This is "KAI" by famous Thai designer Somchai Kawtong. The huge sombrero/rice-patty hats/whatever you want to call them made me smile so I had to put this picture up!

Closer detail. Look at the circle-y fringe/detailing that's under the dress. It really suits spring.

This isn't especially original and is a little bit too prom-like, but the cool draping and bubble hem made me give in to this dress. Is this color a purple, pink, magenta, plumeria, lavender, etc.? Whatever it is, it's a pretty color too.

Pink sombrero!

By "Hook's". If mermaids had fancy balls, they would wear that. Is that some sort of fancy swim-cap inspired hat? Interesting. I love how this picture captured its movement.

It's that hat again! This is just a cute little dress, but I like the black detailing it has.

By "Senada". So what do you think the wet slicked back hair means? Summer? I'm-Clean-Since-I-Just-Took-a-Shower? Casual? Mermaids? Oceans? Lakes? etc.?

I just noticed that she has blue lips! Then that narrows it down to a "I just stepped out of the freezing ocean!" look or a "It's summer! Blue raspberry popsicles are delicious" look.
